Four Sassy Twitter Accounts That Are Winning Social Media

It’s more than just putting a tweet out there these days. Between being politically correct (or not if that’s your thing), inclusive and making sure you’re getting across your key message, there is a fine line that can be walked when it comes to social media. And if done correctly can pay off for you and your brand. That’s why I’ve created a list of my favourite Twitter accounts I’ve recently followed based on the sassy (or to some, savage) content they’re producing.

I’ve recently made a claim that I will also be doing my best to be sassier aka more honest from the corporate accounts I run, doing my best to of course not get fired at the same time. People prefer honesty and transparent. That’s a fact, and with so much noise in the social media world, these businesses are using their platform and audience to their advantage.

  1. Columbus Blue Jackets

Yes, I’m talking about the hockey team. I’m not even a Columbus Blue Jackets fan, but the way they not only engage with their fans but their social media “strategy” when it comes to live games and events is worth the follow alone. They are clearly the instigators in their social space as you can see with how they have trolled teams in the past, but like any troublemakers, things like this only encourage them. You can see more of what they’re doing by following them at: @BlueJacketsNHL.

  1. Wendy’s

Wendy’s kicked off 2017 with all the sass. And they’re killing it. It always starts with just one tweet and then of course it escalates to one guy deleting his account. Wendy’s did so well it had everyone from Business Insider to Entrepreneur were writing articles on their social media performance. Needless to say, I’m excited to see what delicious posts they come up with for the rest of the year.

  1. Buzzfeed Canada

With the content they produce on the regular, it should not be a surprise that the Buzzfeed knows how to push the Twitter limits. But it also knows when to be serious and will always be updating world events and key happenings to make sure Canadians are in the loop. In a panel with Buzzfeed’s social media team, my favourite quote from them was on how they try and convey their messages and tone to sounds like a 16-year-old teenager.

  1. Toronto District School Board (TDSB)

When it comes to the TDSB I’m 100% bias and will fully admit that; mostly because I am the person behind this account (with some major help and experience to rely on of course). This is the account I get to have the most fun with out of all the accounts I run. And what do people want to follow a school board mostly for? Snow days. When there is a snow fall or chance of a snow day, it’s basically my time to shine as it is on those days we have the most engagement.

  • A good old-fashioned feud is always a great way for a brand to show off its sassy side — when done well, of course. Many brands strive to cultivate an authentic tone that resonates with their web-savvy followers, but few get it quite like Hamburger Helper.
