As summertime comes to an end, so does festival season. Over the last few years, Toronto has become home to some pretty big festivals and something for all genres and musical tastes. And as much as every music festival has it’s own vibe and theme, does that mean you can only attend the music festival that suits your music tastes?
This year I attended two music festivals, Firefly Music Festival in Dover, Delaware and Veld Music Festival here in Toronto. I would also like to note that I’m the furthest thing from a raver. I don’t know much about the DJ music scene, but I do listen to all their songs and remixes whenever I hear them on the radio! Regardless, I had a lot of fun. It was definitely an impromptu decision to go to Veld as I only attended one day of the festival, but definitely saw what all the hype was about. Seeing some of the biggest DJ’s, playing their top hits live was a very cool experience.
Veld was also at the same time as many other events happening in Toronto, including OVO Fest, Caribana, Electric Island and not that far away, one of Canada’s first festivals in Montreal, Osheaga which I’ve been too quite a few times but missed out on this year.
So why Veld? I’ve seen DJs at other festivals before but have never been to a festival dedicated to DJ sets and trance music. Was I slightly nervous to see what I was getting myself into? I would say I was more excited to see the acts and if the festival vibe stood up to all the hype and reviews people give it.
Going to Veld also means you get to dress up in bright and fun clothing. One of my best friends and I took this opportunity to wear shirts we made years ago and use those fun accessories you have hiding around from Halloween or those event photo booths.
The best part about festivals is that everyone is there to have a good time, and as much as the bathroom and beer lines may be long, you’re with a group of people who want to have as good of a time as you.
