30 Things I’ve Done My First Year in Toronto

It’s true what they say, Toronto is a city that never sleeps. I have lived in Toronto for approximately one year now, and trying to NOT find something to do is harder than trying TO find something to do. Here is a roundup of the craziest/most random things that I have done in my first year living in the City.

  1. Got a free pedicure in Dundas Square with Amope in hopes to set a Guinness World Record.
  2. Conquered the TTC. For a girl who moved to the City never even riding public transit before, I am now a master of getting around.
  3. Joined a beer league baseball team and won a championship.
  4. Did a work paint night, and yes, I drank the water instead of my wine.
  5. Had a spa day at the Shangri-La Hotel.
  6. Had a table at Real Sports Bar for both the Leafs season opener AND the Gold Medal World Jr. game.
  7. Kicked off my career. I moved to the City to do one thing and completely switched up my game plan when an opportunity arose. Scarier than you would think it would be.
  8. Indoor trampolining at Sky Zone, where I learned that I cannot do a flip.
  9. Ended up at Croc Rock almost every weekend for the first six months I lived here.
  10. Voluntarily dressed up in retro ski suits and froze outdoors for the Roundhouse Winter Craft Beer Festival hosted by Steam Whistle.
  11. Completed the Mud Hero Urban Toronto
  12. Accidently ended up at the Toronto Temperance Society, not realizing that we were entering a members only bar.
  13. Purposely trekked through an alleyway, employee entrance, and walk-in freezer only to be entering the downtown speakeasy, Escobar.
  14. Learned the Coyote Ugly dance routine at a place called Flirty Girl Fitness.

  15. Biked 25 km up the Gardiner Expressway and Don Valley Parkway in the Becel Ride for Heart.
  16. Ended up at the same bar Brody Jenner was DJing at. My high school self was very excited.
  17. Found my go-to burger joint, thank you for existing Slab Burger.

  18. Found my “How I Met Your Mother” bar located in my building. Cheers Mullins for always being there for me.
  19. Got a Toronto Public Library card and use it too frequently for books, tickets, and hanging out (more than I ever used a Library as a student).
  20. Did the Edgewalk and saw a Blue Jay’s home run from the best view possible.
  21. Started writing this blog and for others like Indie88, Ten Thousand Coffees, and The Girls on Bloor.
  22. Won free tickets to awesome events like RiotFest, PanAm, and Spring Craft Beer Festival.
  23. Lived in U of T residence to save money and then moved three times only to realize you have about 24 hours (if you’re lucky) to decide whether or not you want the apartment you were just shown.
  24. Went to three opening movie premiers for TIFF and got to listen to stars like Julianne Moore, Kate Bosworth, Keira Knightley and more talk and debut their movies.
  25. Went to get a sleep test done. Yes, one where they stick loads of wires all over your body and produce your results for you.
  26. Bought a floppy hat at a Toronto market.
  27. Went to a Toronto Raptors game in the VIP section and crashed a corporate booth underneath the stands for free drinks and food.
  28. Went to the Ballet. Cinderella is better with words.
  29. Saw the horse version of Cirque du Soleil- Cavalia Odysseo.
  30. Learned how to thrift shop, and haven’t bought clothes from a mall in months.

I’m positive there are many other things I can add to my list; let me know some of the random adventures you encounter while in the City.
